THE trend towards ever larger mowers is not without its problems, says Niemeyer. Mounted mowers with a wide, offset cutter bar can cause uneven weight loadings while trailed machines can be exp-ensive and difficult to manoeuvre.

The solution, maintains the company, is to be found in using a semi-mounted mower design which is employed in the new Semitra mower conditioners.

Trailing parallel linkage arms attach the mowing unit to a chassis, one end of which is carried on the tractors three-point linkage, the other supported on a single wheel. For transport, the mower is moved to an in-line position behind the tractor.

"This design incorporates the compactness and in-work manoeuvrability of a mounted machine, while enabling the mower to perform as a contour following trailed unit," explains Terry Clapham of Niem-eyers UK importer, Vogel & Noot.

The Semitra is available as a drum mower with working widths of 3.05m and 3.65m (10ft/12ft) and as a seven disc model with a cutting width of 3.05m.

All come with Niemeyers full width intensive conditioning system and Quick-Dry vanes, and ny-lon Y-shaped conditioning flails. &#42
