Show organisers told of alternative to isolation policy

SHOWING livestock at just one show will be possible without having approved isolation facilities for animals before and after showing, says DEFRA.

A DEFRA spokesperson says that as an alternative to isolating show animals, producers attending a single show can opt for a 20-day standstill on the holding, before and after it, for all stock on the unit.

This may make it easier for producers to show animals, but many of the show organisers contacted this week have yet to receive government approval.

However, many of the May and June shows in England intend to hold cattle and pig classes (see table for listing of shows to be reported in farmers weekly).

Some June shows also have plans for sheep displays or classes subject to DEFRAs approval.
