Show was wet but well attended

ROYAL HIGHLAND Show organisers have said they were delighted with the attendance at this year‘s event which ran from June 24-27.

Despite the heavy rain on three of the days, the total attendance of 146,700 was only 3500 down on last year.

But reduced income from the turnstiles paled into insignificance compared with the cost of dealing with the two inches of rain which fell on the Wednesday and Thursday.

More than £10,000 had to be spent, purely as a result of the rain which battered the showground.

Tankers were drafted in to pump flood water from the showground and car parks and tonnes of wood chips were brought in to cover wet, muddy grass.

Pea gravel also had to be spread through one of the car parks to ensure that vehicles could get out.
