Singing away BSEblues…

THE Spice Girls or Steps it may not be. But fun and fine listening it is, the song British Beef is Better Beef by Far, released by Ross and The Ruminants.

Written by Ross Young – and featuring a group of Somerset Levels farmers – the idea was born out of the "pure frustration at the doom and gloom" that the BSE crisis has brought.

"I wanted something that would brighten the spirits of farmers," says Ross Young. "It had to be catchy and singalongabull."

The reaction, he says, has been huge – particularly from people overseas. The Germans, apparently, cant understand "ze jovial attitude of ze British".

Its the reaction of the record-buying British public the farmers are now waiting to see. A Christmas number one maybe?

* The CD – which includes a karaoke version and the track Moo Cow Blues – is available for £3.50 from William Tilley on 01823-698229.
