Slashing beef price unlikely to boost demand

SLASHING beef prices is unlikely to boost consumer demand, according to The Herald today.

The newspaper, which reports from the Beefex 98 conference in Australia, says falling prices are one of the most crucial changes taking place in the global beef.

But demand for traditional meat cuts is falling because of changing consumer tastes and lifestyles, including a rise in the number of working women.

Single person households and consumers who lack cooking skills mean that farmers, processors or retailers must offer something extra to regain shoppers allegiance, the newspaper says.
