Spraying on a roll

CAMBRIDGE rolls with a sprayer attachment is not perhaps a combination which instantly springs to mind. But Gainsborough-based JB Edlington produces just such a system.

The company has placed two 1000-litre tanks and plumbed in the spray lines which run along the back of the 12m set. The pump and operating controls are attached to the towing tractor.

But why roll and spray at the same time?

"Its for applying herbicide pre-emergence to crops," says John Edlington. "The idea came from the owner of a large farm who wanted to cut down on the number of times he had to drive over his crops.

"This particular farm used the roll and spray system to apply Reflex T to drilled peas and intends to use it to apply Catamaran to OSR pre-emergence."

Mr Edlington also says that the farm has also used the system to apply glyphosate + wetter to control Coltsfoot – the rolls being used to break down the plants waxy surface.

Roll and spray at the same time with Edlingtons 12m combination.
