Stancott hits 6000gns
A COW imported from Canada to celebrate its owners successful heart operation achieved the top price of 6000gns in Devon last week.
The dispersal of Stan Hills Stancott herd at Chudleigh saw the third calver Quality Ultimate Lin head for Totnes with buyer P J Caunter.
Lin, classified VG86 2yo Can, calves in October to Ked Juror. Already a well-known show winner, she looks set for more success as she matures.
The herd has an average yield of 6292kg but Mr Hill, a loyal supporter of West Country Holstein Friesian show classes, feeds little concentrate – a maximum 800kg a lactation.
A 2400gns call from David Grandfield, Cullompton, secured Comely Inspired Marigold, a calved heifer that has given 8404kg in 233 days and stood breed champion and took the reserve interbreed title at this years Mid Devon Show.
Freshly calved heifers reached 1350gns for a Cleitus daughter and yearlings sold to 560gns for one by Slocum.
AVERAGES: 53 cows in-milk £748, 12 cows in-calf £1368, six calved heifers £932, 25 served heifers £558 and 44 yearlings £451. (Greenslade Taylor Hunt.) *
