Stewart is popular sire at dispersal

THE Hanoverhill Starbuck son, Maple Wood Stewart, proved to be the most popular sire when his progeny was offered at a recent Somerset dispersal.

From East Sussex dairy farmer Matthew Bramhall, five of Stewarts daughters made 1000gns and over at Yeovil.

And they included the top price of 1100gns, paid for a cow due with her second calf next month. She was in-calf to Veazland Mars Dean-Patch and was claimed by E Whetham, Frampton, Dorchester.

Also included in the sale were Brown Swiss x Holstein Friesian cattle. The four cows sold to 840gns for a second calver.

AVERAGES: 59 cows £777; four Brown Swiss crosses £761; four Jersey cows £241; 10 calved and served heifers £741; 27 empty Holstein Friesian heifers and calves £374. (R B Taylor and Sons)
