Stores squabble for second place

SUPERMARKET chains Asda and Sainsburys are rowing over which is the second biggest in the country, reports The Daily Telegraph.

The row broke out after Asda claimed it had overtaken Sainsburys to claim second spot behind Tesco.

Wal-Mart-owned Asda said in terms of the amount of product sold, new research showed it was ahead of Sainsburys.

But Sainsburys hit back, claiming these figures merely measured volume and that accepted methods of calculating market share still place them second.
