AT current average market prices, co-formulated strobilurin cereal fungicides can be up to 20% more cost-effective than tank mixes of straight strobilurin products with a triazole, says BASF.

"The agronomic benefits of all the current strobilurin-based treatments are similar," maintains the firms Tony Grayburn. "So the decision about which to use comes down to cost-effectiveness."

With group buying, trust deals, end-of-season rebates and built-in service charges complicating the picture, ascertaining specific on-farm prices is not easy, he admits.

However in 78 trials last season co-formulations such as Landmark and Mantra were consistently more rewarding than straight strob plus triazole tank mixes, he notes.
