Subsidy system threatens small farms
SMALL family farms are in jeopardy because 80% of farm subsidies go to the top 20%, claims a major conservation group.
In The Independent, the Wildlife Trusts (WLT) warns that without government intervention, the current problems in the industry will hasten the decline smaller farms.
The trust is urging the government to cap production subsidies to the largest farm enterprises.
