Sulphur shortfall
SULPHUR deficiency showing in heavy land trial plots at Rothamsted research centre suggest a large part of the UK crop could now be prone to deficiency, say scientists. Yellowed flag leaves characteristic of the deficiency are likely to lead to a 1t/ha yield loss, says Dr Fang-Jie Zhao. Most British farmers now need to consider the sulphur requirement of their wheat crop, advises Prof Steven McGrath. *
