Syngenta to join dot.com venture
By Tom Allen-Stevens
SYNGENTA, the pesticide manufacturer, is to join an internet venture which is due to become the e-commerce portal for some of farmings biggest names.
It will be the second pesticide manufacturer to join First4farming. Banks Cargill, Dalgety, BOCM, Kemira, Terra, Dupont and others joined last year.
The aim of the site is to streamline the partners back office systems, enabling them to trade electronically between themselves.
A full e-commerce trading site for farmers is due to come on-line next year.
Weve got to keep up with the times and reckon this is the best way to do it, said Syngentas Nigel Thornton on Tuesday (26 June).
Were not interested in going direct to farmers, but this should help get product on to the farm quicker, cut out the paperwork and reduce cost.
First4farming director David Gould said: Syngenta is a very large player and adds strength to the impressive group we already have.
Syngenta has a turnover of 70-80m, with a UK market share of 22-25%.
