TEBBITS MARATHON DREAM ON TRACK
TEBBITS MARATHON DREAM ON TRACK
IF you go out in the fields one lunchtime – somewhere the Tebbit familys Cambridgeshire farm – you might just spot farmers weeklys cartoonist Jake Tebbit running along a public footpath preparing for the London Marathon.
He will be wearing his old rugby gear – proud of the fact that it still fits though its 30 years since he played the game – but has invested in new trainers to follow the beginners training schedule recommended by the marathon organisers. He does a 30min run of two to three miles on Tuesday and again on Thursday; tackles a two-mile time trial most Saturdays and runs for at least an hour on Sunday.
Jakes target is to complete the 26-mile Flora London Marathon on Apr 26 to raise a handsome sum for FARM-Africa, the charity which helps struggling African farmers with schemes that provide training and bring improvements in soil fertility and livestock quality.
Potential supporters should know that £20 would provide a crossbred goat doe, £24 would provide a modern beehive, a camel could be bought with £140 and a new well and handpump for 250 people costs £1500. Contributions can be made to FARM-Africa, 9-10 Southampton Place, London WC1A 2EA, quoting ref E2159.
