Telehandler assembly moves to north-west

TEREX Lifting UK is to relocate assembly of its Terex telescopic handlers and Matbro parts business and close its site in Tetbury, Glos.
Assembly of pivot-steer telehandlers will continue at Tetbury throughout October before being transferred to Terexs parent company, Fermec, in Manchester at the start of November.
UK telehandler sales and service operations will also be based in Manchester, and TerexLift rigid chassis machines imported from Terex Italy will also be distributed from this site.
"The 80,000sq ft factory at Tetbury is too large for the facility to be cost effective and used to its full capacity," says Terexs general manager Chris Melia. "The factory was originally geared up for producing over 1000 Matbro telehandlers a year. Current assembly of Terex machines is nearer 200 a year."
Although the number of job losses are unclear, some employees at the Tetbury plant will be given the opportunity to move to the Manchester factory, says Mr Melia.
Bringing assembly and parts operations under one roof is aimed at creating significant financial benefits to Terexs telehandler business and Fermecs product lines.
These benefits, says Mr Melia, will be achieved through parts commonality and economies of scale. *
