The best crops for lo-till

Which crops work best in lo-till situations?

OILSEED rape and cereals present the greatest opportunity to adopt lo-till.

Root crops are a different matter because they require deep, well-structured soils to avoid root deformities. Potatoes, need a lot of soil movement and loosening in order to create beds.

However, on light, blowing sands not moving the soil for sugar beet production is a positive benefit. British Sugar has conducted some very successful min till trials and a growing number of beet growers are managing to do without the plough.
