"Too many deer" in Highlands and Islands, warns Commission
THE Deer Commission warned there were still too many deer in parts of the
Highlands and Islands despite more intensive culling in recent years.
The comments came at the Hilldeer computer program was launched to tell
estate managers how many deer each area can support and the long-term effect of
a deer population on vegetation.
Commission chairman Gordon Duff-Pennington said the software, launched
by the Governments Maculay Land Use Research Institute in Aberdeen, would only
supplement the local knowledge of the stalker
