Top Cut Meats plans expansion
TOP Cut Meats (TCM) opened its abattoir at Castle Douglas with plans to create additional jobs and raise production, reports The Herald.
The company also plans a unique scheme to keep down the numbers of unwanted calves when the national Calf Processing Aid Scheme finishes at the end of the month.
TCM plans to set up collection points to have the unwanted calves disposed of humanely and at little or no cost to farmers.
It would mean calves that are not wanted will be taken out of the system and disposed of instead of being buried on farms.
TCM hopes to increase its workforce from nine to 15 and production is expected to be ramped up by 50% from the current throughput of 450 sheep and 120 cattle.
