Triangular aid to help cut pesticide residues
Triangular aid to help cut pesticide residues
A SIMPLE, single-page, flow diagram to help pesticide users avoid mistakes has been launched by the Crop Protection Association.
The Crop Protection Decision Triangle has been drawn up after wide consultation with the food industry, says the CPAs Richard Trow-Smith.
CSL scientists carry out 90,000 MRL tests each year, quite apart from those done by the industry itself. "It is often a mistake on farm that leads to the trading standards figures being exceeded," he explains.
The guide takes growers through the initial processes of assessing the crop problem, prevention, observation and intervention. That leads on to a decision triangle covering technique selection, the safety of operator, public and consumer and the impact on the environment.
In each area chemical aspects, such as harvest interval, are highlighted.Copies are available free from the CPA (01733 349225 fax: 01733 562523). *
