Tributes to three-year-old boy killed in farm accident

A Welsh farming community has been left devastated by the death of a three-year-old boy in an accident on a farm.

Evan Lloyd Williams is understood to have been with his father on farmland his family rented at Llanybydder, Carmarthenshire.

The incident involving a 4×4 vehicle happened at about 4.25pm on Sunday (21 October).

Huw Davies, NFU Cymru county chairman for Carmarthenshire, spoke of the farming community’s shock and sadness.

“Many of us have grown up on family farms. No words can express the sadness we all feel for Evan and his family,” he said.

“The farming community in Carmarthenshire and in Ceredigion, where Evan lived, is close-knit and will rally around to support his family at this truly awful time.”

School ‘devastated’

Evan had an older brother and a sister and lived at Gorsgoch, near Lampeter, Ceredigion, six miles from the farm where the accident happened.

He had recently started school at Ysgol Bro Sion Cwilt in Synod Inn.

Headteacher Nia Lloyd Thomas described him as a “happy, popular and a cherished” member of the school.

“His loss is devastating to the whole school community and we send our sincere condolences to Evan’s parents, his older brother and sister and the family during this tragic, sad and difficult period,” she said.

Council support workers have been at the school to provide help for children and staff affected by the tragedy.

Police investigation

Dyfed-Powys Police is investigating the incident and the Health and Safety Executive said they were assisting police with their inquiries.

The family are being supported by specially trained officers from the force.

“The family do not wish to comment but have asked to be left to grieve in peace,” said a police spokesperson.

The Carmarthenshire coroner has been made aware of the death.
