Union joins rally
THE NFU will be sending a small delegation to join in a mass rally of EU farmers in Brussels on Feb 22, the day on which agriculture ministers sit down to decide the final details of CAP reform.
While recognising the need for reform, the NFU believes it must be properly funded, with adequate compensation for price cuts.
Following a meeting in Brussels this week with German farm council president Karl-Heinz Funke, NFU director general Richard Macdonald said there was also need for clarity – particularly on the future of milk quotas, and giving individual governments more control of the purse-strings.
. And he remained sceptical about giving individual governments more control of the purse strings, through the creation of national envelopes, as compensation might not be applied evenly across all member states.
