Union tributes as founder dies
By FWi staff
LEADERS of the Farmers Union of Wales have paid tribute to their founder president, Ivor T Davies, who has died at the age of 94.
Current president Bob Parry said, “Ivor Davies was a man of great vision and courage.
“Were it not for the foresight shown by Mr Davies and the other founder members in 1955, then the FUW might not exist today. He will be sadly missed.”
Mr Parry said Mr Davies inspired thousands of farmers throughout Wales to leave the National Farmers Union to join the fledgling FUW.
Mr Davies was president of the FUW between 1955 and 1958, during which time he ran a dairy farm at Brynmafon, Llanfihangel-ar-Arth.
He died last Friday (29 December) at his present home in Llandysul, Carmarthenshire.
Mr Davies is survived by his wife, Margaret, daughters and grandchildren.
A private funeral for family and close friends will be held in Llandysul on Friday (05 January).
