Urban fringe farmers hit by crime
MORE than half the farmers on the fringes of urban areas have suffered at the hands of criminals in the past year.
Of 120 farmers questioned for a BBC1 Countryfile survey, 33% had been subject to verbal abuse and 10% to physical abuse.
Some 45% had encountered vandalism and 20% had suffered arson attacks.
Twenty per cent said they feared attacks and 40% said they thought crime on the urban fringes was getting worse.
The survey showed that 55% had been burgled.
