US farmers’ warning on GM crops

THE growth of genetically modified crops could lead to further financial hardship for Scottish farmers, according to Corky Jones of the US National Family Farming Coalition.

Mr Jones, who farms in Nebraska, switched to GM after he was told it would increase yields and reduce environmental damage.

But he told members of the Scottish parliament and farmers yesterday (7 February) that he found no increase in yields and no increase in financial returns.

An NFFC delegation is visiting Britain to warn farmers about the dangers of GM products.
