Variable winter barley crop

JAMES HOSKING, who farms near Truro in Cornwall has had a variable winter barley harvest, and is now waiting for spring barley and winter wheat to become fit.

Regina feed barley had a varied yield between 2.5-6.2t/ha (1-2.5t/acre). “Where it was waterlogged there was a take all problem. Its disappointing, but expected.” There is only feed barley grown, “as malting is not worth the effort.”

He says they should be into spring barley and wheat by the end of the week.
