vCJD payments to be announced

MINISTERS have agreed to make an interim payment of 25,000 to the families of victims of the human form of BSE, reports The Times.

It says this payment to families of victims of variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease will be announced by Health secretary Alan Milburn this week.

Final settlements of between 75,000 and 250,000 are expected to be decided in advance of the general election, says The Times.
