Veg loader leaves soil in fields
HAULING unwanted soil to a packhouse is a wasteful exercise not only because it adds up to extra transport costs, but also because costs are incurred disposing of soil accumulated at the pack-house.
In short, says Nicholson Machinery, soil is best left where it started – the field.
The company has now updated its carrot cleaner loader to allow the machine to handle a wider range of crops – potatoes or swedes, for example.
Loaded directly from a trailer, the crop is fed into the cleaning section which comprises either a web or variable pitch spring coils. Soil and debris drop out below the machine and cleared with a loader when required. Nicholson is offering a version of the cleaner loader equipped with a covered area.
From the cleaning area the crop passes on to the loading elevator, which is necked in to places to allow the cleaned crop to be lowered over the sides of trailers with a reduced drop. A fall breaker is included in the specification.
The loaders are rated at up to 50t/hour and prices range from £39,000 to £43,000. *
