Velcourt seals crop sales deal

VELCOURT is to sell all its combinable crop produce through Group Cereal Services from this harvest in a bid to secure top prices.

“Weve joined forces to add as much value as possible,” says Velcourt finance director David Teague.

“Weve done a lot of research, and felt that Group Cereal Services was best placed to meet our needs.”

Until now, Velcourt has sold its crops through several trade outlets.
Mr Teague is reluctant to discuss details, but he says a “varying” commission will be paid.

The move means Group Cereal Services, which already claimed to be the UKs biggest grain marketing co-op, has about 725,000t of committed grain to sell next season, says chief executive Robert Adams.

That tonnage will enable it to offer larger parcels of grain and secure better prices.

“This will give us collective clout. We have a good relationship with end buyers.

“This is important – there are fewer of them, and each is taking a bigger proportion of the market,” he says.
