Vietnam to top robusta league
VIETNAM is set to overtake Indonesia as the worlds largest maker of robusta coffee, according to German commodities analyst FO Licht.
Vietnams harvest is forecast to rise to 7.6 million 60kg bags in the 1999/2000 season, against 7.2m bags for Indonesia.
Global robusta production is also set to rise in 1999/2000, totalling 36.5m bags against 33m bags the previous season, F O Licht said.
Arabica output will be 6m bags lower at 68m bags, which is attributed to a fall in output by Brazil.
In 1999/2000, Brazil is forecast to turn in a crop of 26.7m bags, against 34.7m bags the previous season.
