IN a move to guarantee traceability and production advice for their members, Viking Cereals has acquired an equity stake in quality food production specialists, Cropwise.

The grain marketing company currently has about 400 members, handling a combined total of 1m tonnes of cereals each season.

“Farmers future prosperity will largely be dependent on their ability to meet the specifications of the processor and the end consumer,” says chairman Mike Jackson.

Viking intend to have access to the highest quality advice, new arable technology and quality assured, traceable produce, he adds.

Customers will be able to access Cropwises IT database, making traceability of products from seed to fertiliser a much quicker and easier process.

Gary Johnson, joint managing director of Cropwise, says the move will help the company match crops to the needs of the market.
