Violence erupts at ban protest

THE MOOD in Parliament Square turned sour where thousands arrived to protest against a ban on fox hunting being debated in Parliament today (Wednesday, Sept 15).

Five protestors managed to force entry into the House of Commons itself.

The session was suspended immediately as security restrained the aggressors, but the debate resumed after about a 20 minute delay.

Meanwhile, outside in the Square protestors clashed with police.

Police have estimated that between 8,000 and 10,000 people are taking part in the rally against a ban on fox hunting.

What started out as a peaceful protest developed into something more ugly as riot and mounted police were sent in to quell violent uprisings.

Hundreds of police, who were initially in place to stop protesters spilling out of the square, moved in after fireworks and bottles were thrown from the crowd.
