Wal-Mart promises big price cuts
AMERICAN retailer Wal-Mart has promised to shake-up the British retail sector with big price cuts in its new store opening in Bristol.
The 93,000 square feet Asda Wal-Mart store in will be four times the size of the average British supermarket.
Wal-Mart says it will discount items by as much as 60% and plans nine more stores within five years, some specialising in low-price food, reports The Times.
In The Daily Telegraph Charles Glover fears that Wal-Marts cost-cutting could at the expense of environmental standards and working conditions.
Wal-Mart last year took over Asda in a 6.7bn deal.
