FARM Electronics Cropscan controllers used in potato and onion stores can now be operated by a laptop computer via a mobile phone.
The system controls and records crop temperatures and communicates to the controllers using modems which are installed in stores.
A key advantage of the system is the ability to monitor crop stores over longer distances compared with hard wired links.
Farm Electronics says crop stores can be monitored from anywhere in the world, providing the network connection is strong enough. The controllers can transfer data in several formats, enabling the store manager to collect temperature data immediately, over the past 24 hours or over the previous two weeks.
The system costs from £500 to £1500 depending on the number of modems and includes £300 for upgraded software. *
