EUROPEAN sales of second-hand machinery are being fuelled by the continents largest internet trading platform, claims Alfons Veer, chairman of Hanover-based farm supply co-op Raiffersen.

"Tec24.com offers 16,000 second hand machines, is updated daily and has attracted 700,000 visitors already this year," Mr Veer told a conference at the Agritechnica show, Hannover.

Farmers can view machine specifications, photographs, and contact details from their computers. Potential buyers and sellers then contact each other by telephone or e-mail.

The service is offered jointly by eight German farm supply co-operatives, which trade in second-hand machinery in Europe and beyond.

Sales of large-scale, second-hand machines, such as combines to Eastern Europe are particularly good, said Hartmut Seemann, Raiffersens sales manager for second-hand equipment. &#42
