Wet weather worries UK markets HGCA

  • Delivered prices were driven by weather. Recent wet weather has created anxiety within the market.
  • Milling wheat prices have jumped over the week following quality concerns and field reports of sprouting and falling hagbergs.
  • The prospect of larger quantities of feed quality wheat has pushed delivered feed prices slightly lower.
  • The delay to the wheat harvest affected the UK export markets over the week, with nearby FOB wheat prices increasing slightly as a result of the limited availability, to date, of this years crop.
  • It was unclear to what extent the rains had affected the quality of the harvested crop, but the premium for biscuit wheats over feed varieties increased to between £2.50 and £3.00/t in response to the possibility that there may be reduced quantities of milling quality wheat.
  • The barley export market was reported very quiet, with little buying interest at the prices offered by sellers.
