NORTH Atlantic influences could become a key part of a new £200,000 scheme aimed at forecasting wheat quality.

The three-year Harper Adams research project, directed mainly at Group 2 varieties, is intended to help determine whether the extra expense of chasing bread-making quality will be worthwhile.

"With sounder forewarning of high or low premium years as early as the spring, growers will be able to make a more informed decision," says project leader Peter Kettlewell.

Main sponsors of the project are the HGCA, Novartis, Alvan Blanch, Hydro-Agri, Monsanto, ADM Milling, Rank Hovis and Allied Grain/Weston Research Laboratories. &#42
