Wight royally

entertained

THE Solent was like a mill pond the morning Dorset members crossed to Yarmouth.

As we sailed out of Lymington there were comparisons to the film Titanic by some witty members – but as far as I know their search for a Leonardo DiCaprio failed miserably.

Once over on the island we headed straight for Osborne House, Queen Victorias home and the place of her death. As we were ushered through the various rooms full of Victorian memorabilia one couldnt help but look upwards to the ornate, colourful decorated ceilings. In Queen Victorias audience room there is the most beautiful candelabra of a coloured glass convolvulus which certainly threw a new light on that weed that seems to overtake my plants whilst away!

A brisk walk took us to see the Swiss Cottage where Victorias nine children each had their own gardening plot.

Then we headed back to the coach which was waiting with Isle of Wight member Mary Chapman to whisk us off to Freshwater Bay. This was where contact leader Sheila Brownrigg and her merry band of helpers had prepared a delicious spread.

Learning names was made easier by the fact there were two Valerie Mitchells from Dorset – my job would be so much easier if every club had duplicated names.
