WIN A TAARUP FEEDER

Theres a chance to win a £19,500 Taarup diet feeder in our

late summer competition. Just read the text about Taarup

diet feeders each week, answer the question and keep the

answer in a safe place. There will be a chance to fill in the

competition coupon in the Sept 28 issue of farmers weekly

CLAMP silage may still account for the biggest chunk of the UK silage market, but the wrapped variety is becoming more and more important. In fact, its reckoned that a total of 20m wrapped bales were made in the UK in 2001.

This year has seen a further swing to baled silage, as farmers in foot-and-mouth restriction areas who were not able to make clamp silage this spring turned to baled silage instead.

Add to that the big benefits of being able to produce a buffer ration for dairy cows at grass and delay the opening of the clamp until the main winter feeding has begun and you have a technique that has a lot going for it.

But now that you have a good stock of bales of silage, what are you going to do with them? One answer is to use a capable feed mixer to chop them up and mix them evenly into an ideal dairy ration.

Taarup, part of the Kverneland Group, makes a range of diet feeders designed expressly to chop silage bales and mix them in thoroughly with the other ration ingredients. These British-built machines range in capacity from 8-18cu m and all can deal with round bales, clamp silage, compounds, straights, molasses and minerals.

Main features are twin, contra-rotating augers and robust auger drive, Ultra-Glide auger bearings, a range of discharge options, rear loading chute and highly accurate weighing system.

In fact you could win just such a machine in our early autumn competition. The prize is a Taarup 612 two-auger diet feeder with a list price of £19,500. This machine is ideal for chopping bales and comes with a discharge conveyor, discharge chute and E-Z view 150 remote electronic weigher. Minimum pto requirement is 62hp and its mixing capacity is 12cu m.

How do you win this high-specification, capable machine? Just study the text each week, answer the question on the page and keep the answer in a safe place. A coupon with all the questions repeated (though not the text that contains the answers) will appear in the Sep 28 issue of farmers weekly.
