Wiseman off the hook

By Robert Harris

TRADE and Industry secretary Stephen Byers has decided to take no further action in relation to Robert Wiseman Dairies operations.

His decision follows a recent Competition Commission investigation into the supply of fresh milk to Scotland.

The inquiry was initiated after rival Claymore Dairies made a number of complaints about supply of milk to middle ground retailers, a market made up of 19 million litres-worth or about 70m.

Alan Wiseman, chairman of Wiseman, said: “We are pleased that after an exhaustive nine-month inquiry no action is to be taken.”

He added that there were more than 60 other retailers supplying the middle-ground sector in Scotland.
