World coffee output pushes ever higher

WORLD coffee output will total 105 million 60kg bags in the 1998-99 season, against 95m bags over the previous year, analysts F O Licht have forecast.

Arabica coffee production is expected to reach 73m bags while robusta will top 32m.

Brazil is forecast to take the lions share of the market at 35m bags, while Columbia is expected to return 12.5m bags.

Brazilian production is expected to fall next season because of the biennial nature of the coffee plant.
