Farmers and landowners now have access to a free advisory service to help them decide whether biogas production is right for their business.
The service was launched by the Anaerobic Digestion and Biogas Association at the Energy Now Expo in Malvern, Worcesteshire. It aims to provide a better understanding of what is involved in setting up an AD plant, giving farmers the confidence to invest the time and money needed to develop a project proposal for funding.
"AD is a pivotal mechanism in supporting climate smart farming but the viability of AD for a particular business or site is a complex equation and so it's important that people receive good quality initial advice to help assess its feasibility," NFU president and ADBA board member Gwyn Jones said.
"ADBA's free farmers' consultancy service is a good start in helping farmers find out if anaerobic digestion is right for your business."
Farmer or landowners interested in receiving free advice need to complete a one-page enquiry form on the ADBA website.
Once submitted, one of ADBA's member consultants will then get in contact within seven days. For farming businesses where AD could be a viable option, a consultant will then provide an initial 30-minute free telephone consultation, followed by a free short advice note summarising your options.
Any further consultancy services would be charged at the consultant's standard rates, although farmers are under no obligation to contract with the consultant following the initial consultation.
