Flooding has hit parts of England, Scotland and Wales after the rapid thaw and heavy rain.

The Met Office said that frozen ground had made the flooding worse because water could not drain away through the soil. More than 20 flood warnings remain in England and Wales with more rain forecast for the coming days.

The Environment Agency has flood warnings in place for the Anglian, Midlands, North East, Southern, South West and Thames regions of England as well as the River Wye and Lower Dee Valley in Wales.

In outh Wales over the weekend, roads were closed and properties flooded in Maesteg, Bridgend, Ebbw Vale and Monmouth.

Dyfed-Powys Police said several minor roads had been closed in Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire.

And Severn Trent Water, which provides water to central England and parts of Wales, told the BBC that it had drafted in extra staff after its helpline received 10,000 calls in from people suffering from flooding or burst pipes.
