MPs call for super farm licences

MPs have called on farmers to be required to obtain licences before they can develop “super farms”, to prevent the destruction of farming communities.

A House of Commons Early Day Motion (EDM) calls on large-scale farms to be licensed by the government to prevent traditional farming being overwhelmed by industrial-sized developments.

The motion adds: “In order to prevent the decimation of the farming community, such farms should be limited in numbers by area to prevent super farms having the same effect that supermarkets did on corner shops.”

The regulation of super farms motion has currently been signed by just four MPs. A previous EDM opposing the Nocton super dairy in Lincolnshire received wide-spread support across the commons, with 150 MPs backing the motion.
