AgriChatUK up for European CAP award

A weekly Twitter discussion for people in agriculture has made it to the finals of a Europe-wide communications award.

AgriChatUK – known by the hashtag #AgriChatUK on Twitter – is the only UK entry to make the shortlist in the EU CAP Communications Awards. Run by the European Commission (EC), the award seeks to celebrate projects which help to communicate issues and themes related to CAP.

Since AgrichatUK first started in March 2012, there have been 92 weekly web discussions on a range of topics from CAP to new entrants. It is run by a small team with no funding and on a completely voluntary basis.

Simon Haley, one of the co-founders of AgriChatUK, will be travelling to Brussels next week (9 December) to present the entry at the awards ceremony.

“It is fantastic to be shortlisted for this award as it means our discussions are being seen by those across the EU, and having an impact,” he said.

“But more important than awards is the fact that we are giving those in the industry a voice and an outlet for opinions on the biggest issues and the hottest topics within the industry. For these opinions to be recognised by those higher up the industry is an added bonus.”

Agrichat UK is shortlisted in the “Innovative Communication” category. A judging panel will choose the overall winners in each category, but the project that receives the most public votes will be awarded the “Special Public Prize”.

The public can vote for AgrichatUK on the EC’s website.
