Carlisle crackers
Having attracted a catalogue entry of 2537 head, Borderway Mart, Carlisle saw yet another impressive sale of store cattle at their recent Continental cross store cattle show and sale, with bids hitting ÂŁ5000 for show potential stock.
The first day saw heifers sell up to ÂŁ5000 or a Limousin cross consigned by Northumberland producer John smith-Jackson. This 12-month old black heifer, sired by Cloughead Titantic and out of a Limousin x Belgian Blue mother, sold to David and Mary Cormack, Thirsk.
Taking the championship rosette was a Belgian Blue cross shown by Andrew Kirkbride of Flimby Hall Farm, Flimby Maryport. This roan marked heifer is sired by Ballyclough Ullysses and out of a Limousin cross bred cow. She sold to Alan Hall, Darlington for ÂŁ2600.

Topping the steers on price was a Limousin cross shown by local exhibitor Peter Richardson, who sold for ÂŁ5000 to Charlotte Alford, Taunton.

Havign secured the steer championship, Christine Williams of the Shifnal-based Wilodge herd sold her Wilodge Ulex-sired black steer for ÂŁ950 to A Dickinson of Ashbourne.
