Lancashire farmers take Skipton Easter honours

Farmers from the western side of the Penines showed their Yorkshire counterparts how to do it at yesterday’s show and sale of prime stock at Skipton.

Taking the honours in the lamb section was Farleton, Lancaster-based Robert Towers with a pair of Beltex cross lambs by an Irish bred stock tup. Mr Towers’ 35kg entries sold for £98/head (280p/kg).

Reserve champion were a brace of Suffolk crosses weighing 44kg which made £108/head (246p/kg) for Mark Evans. But top price a head in the lambs went to another pair of 43kg Suffolk crosses from Raymond and Robert Johnson, Felliscliffe, which sold for £115/head (267p/kg).

Top spot among the prime cattle went to Gisburn-based Jimmy Baines with his 11 month old British Blue heifer. This one sold for £967 (192p/kg).
