Welsh Blacks reach 2,050gns at Abergavenny

A 2,050gns call topped 11th Annual Show & Sale of Welsh Black Cattle at Abergavenny on Friday.

 

Auctioneers J Straker, Chadwick & Sons reported a quality entry of stock, attracting a strong contingent of buyers from many parts of the Country.

 

Top price on the day was given for the second prize Bull from P M & T Bowen, Treharris, sired by the 12,000gns Iwrch Blackjack 3rd, this April 2010 born bull was purchased by A Morgan Farms, Aberdare, Mid Glam.

 

Messrs Bowen also took the Overall Championship with a homebred heifer, but this lot went home unsold.

 

Top price was the 1,580gns paid by Mr M Thomas, St Clears, Carms, for the first prize in-calf heifer from D Glyn Thomas, Llangadog.  The same buyer and seller combination accounted for the next best call for another in-calf heifer at 1,500gns.

 

Maiden heifers sold to a top price of 1,050gns for one from L Bigley, Michaelchurch, Hereford and purchased by Messrs Willis, Pontypool, whilst the 880gns paid again by Messrs Willis, for one from DW & P E Evans, Llandefalle, Brecon, topped the junior heifer class.

 

Cows & calves topped at 1,350gns for an entry from G & D James, Clarbeston Road, purchased by Martin Thomas, St Clears.
