BLUE FACED LEICESTERS TOP AT 8000GNS TWICE AT CARLISLE

Another sizzling sale for Blue faced Leicester breeders at Carlisle with a joint top price of 8000gns.

The bids came for two ewe hoggs – one from Richard Hutchinson’s Kirkby Redgate flock and the other from John Lord’s Hewgill flock. Both flocks are based at Kirkby Stephen in Cumbria.

The Carlisle sale completed a phenomenal two days of selling for John Lord who achieved a new breed record price for a female when he sold a ewe hogg at Hawes last Saturday for £11,000.

“The breed is riding high at the moment. Demand has been tremendous at both sales,” commented John Lord who runs 65 ewes in his Hewgill flock and which produced the previous female record holder at the 2011 Hawes fixture making £8000.

Note the Hawes sale is transacted in pounds sterling and the Carlisle sale in guineas.
