A very tight entry of 143 prime cattle on Monday at Sedgemoor resulted in a super trade, when generally the lesser cattle were the dearer, which is a sign of tight supply, reported auctioneers Greenslade Taylor Hunt.
Top was 209p/kg for a very lean, lightweight Charolais heifer from Messrs L and F Maddock and Son, who also sold a lightweight Limousin at 198.5p/kg and another lightweight Charolais at 197p/kg. Other best heifers realised 205p/kg for Messrs C J and J I Hayman and 205.5p/kg for a Limousin from Mr M T Westaway.
Heifers sold to £1,258.16 for a strong 657kg Limousin from Messrs C J and J I Hayman, back after a long absence due to the six day rule. Other heifers making in excess of £1,200 were Limousins from Messrs P and G Ford at £1,249.38 and £1,228.92.
Steers sold to 206p/kg for a quality Limousin from Messrs A J Hepper and Son, who sold another at 203p/kg and Charolais at 203p/kg, 199p/kg and 198.5p/kg twice.
