Charollais shearling ram tops 875gns at Chelford

(013) Champion Charollais.jpgIn the Charollais ring at Saturday’s sale at Chelford, a top call of 875gns was achieved for the show champion – a shearling ram (pictured above) from Rambsottom, Bury-based breeder Mark Worthington.

This one is sired by Dudston Jasper and out of a ewe by Galtres Faithful – he was bought by K.A. Gill, Melton Mowbray, Leics.

(014) Reserve Champion Charollais.jpgThereafter, the reserve champion – a ram lamb from F.H. and M. Kennedy, Dumfries – sold for 700gns.  By Foulrice Knockout, the lamb (pictured above) went home to Patrick Brompton, N. Yorkshire with S.C. Hodgson.  In fact, auctioneers Frank Marshall said quality was consistently good through the ram lamb section, which averaged at ÂŁ377 a head.

A regular to the Chelford Charollais sales, Charles Marwood saw two from his pen of shearling rams from his Foulrice flock make 550gns – both were bough by local prime lamb producer David Jackson, Aston-by-Budworth.

Back in the ram lambs section, two lots from Cheshire-based breeders made 550gns each.  First up was a Rainbow Liam sired lamb from the Rainbow flock of Andrew and Jan Walton, Backford, which sold to F.H. Davies and Co., Betley, Cheshire.

And second up was one from Gasworth breeder Geoff Biddulph – a son of Southan Exotic, this one went to Mark and Sue Shimwell, Astbury, Congleton.
